President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has approved the appointment of Mr. Mohammed D. Abubakar as Acting Inspector General of Police as a first step towards the comprehensive reorganization and repositioning of the Nigeria Police Force to make it more effective and capable of meeting emerging internal security challenges.

The Nigerian police has declared Kibiru Sokoto, the suspected Boko Haram Christmas Day bomber, who escaped  custody wanted, placing a bounty of N50 million on him.

The police placed the ransom on Thursday after the inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, was queried by President Goodluck Jonathan over the escape of the suspect. (more…)

President Jonathan sends troops after protesters, journalists

  1. The day started with a broadcast by President Jonathan announcing a reduction in gasoline price from N141 to N97 per litre. In the broadcast, as reported by Vanguard below, the president announced that said the price was reduced to pacify angry  Nigerians.
