The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta has issued a press release detailing new plans to attack oil infrastructures in the Niger Delta region in Nigeria. The statement also outlined plans by the oil militant group to attack South African businesses and Niger Delta indigenes it claimed have betrayed the Niger Delta struggle.

On Saturday the 4th of February at 1930hrs, fighters of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (M.E.N.D) attacked and destroyed the Agip trunk line at brass in Bayelsa State in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. (more…)
The United Nations is deeply saddened by the death of one more person as a result of the attack on the UN House in Abuja on Friday, August 26, 2011. Mr. Sunday Nwachukwu, a staff of the UNDP, passed on in South Africa on Sunday, 9 October.
Mr. Nwachukwu was one of the first 12 critically injured UN staff members on life support systems who were evacuated to South Africa on air ambulances in August. The UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Daouda Toure, who has consoled the family of the victim, described the late Mr. Nwachukwu as “a hard working colleague and a friendly brother”.
